چکیده

Drilling-induced delamination is among the major concerns of applying the fiber-reinforced composite materials in various industries. Core drill ossesses the advantage for reducing the delamination by distributing the drilling thrust force toward the drill periphery. The thrust force of core rill varying with the conditions in drilling carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is experimentally investigated in this study. The experimental esults show that reduced thickness of core drill, large grit size of diamond, low feed rate and medium spindle speed are effective in reducing the hrust force. The grit size of diamond is the most significant factor among the four control factors, while the drill thickness shows limited influence. he correlation between thrust force and cutting parameters is obtained by multi-variable linear regression and compared with the experimental esults. A feasible method for the evaluation of thrust force in drilling CFRP laminate with errors within 16% is derived. 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Comprehensive analysis of delamination in drilling of composite materials with various drill bits

Beside the twist drill, the effects of various drill geometries were rarely discussed in analytical fashion. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of delamination in use of various drill types, such as saw drill, candle stick drill, core drill and step drill. In this analysis, the critical thrust force at the onset of delamination is predicted and compared with the twist drill. © 2003 El...

Effects of special drill bits on drilling-induced delamination of composite materials

Drilling is the most frequently employed operation of secondary machining for fiber-reinforced materials owing to the need for joining structures. Delamination is among the serious concerns during drilling. Practical experience proves the advantage of using such special drills as saw drill, candle stick drill, core drill and step drill. The experimental investigation described in this paper exa...

Research on the Drilling Performance of a Helical Point Micro Drill with Different Geometry Parameters

During the micro-drilling process of stainless steel, the wear, fracture, and breakage of the micro-drill easily occur. Micro-drill geometry parameters have significant influence on the drilling performance of the micro-drill. Nowadays, the helical point micro-drill is proposed and its improved drilling performance is validated by some researchers. In this study, to analyze the effect of geomet...
